The drive to reduce cost, improve operational efficiency, and standardize across organizations is driving the trend toward laboratory consolidation and standardization.  Shrinking DoD and Federal budgets require that stove-piped, one-off systems and practices be replaced with Enterprise Wide solutions and processes that reduce overall cost while increasing efficiency. However, if not planned carefully and realistically, these projects can reside in headline size failures, with alienated users, frustrated stakeholders, and angered oversight organizations. Often, the organization is left off worse than when the project started.

LabAnswer has enabled organizations such as the Center for Disease Control, Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Cancer Institute to standardize on a single solution and standardize operations while maintaining or improving customer satisfaction levels.

LabAnswer Distinguishing Features
Why is it important to you?
Disciplined Project management Approach

There is no substitute for disciplined project management to ensure successful delivery, and LabAnswer has a mature corporate PMO support organization led by a 20-year industry veteran that oversees the PMO functions of all projects.  The PMO provides standard templates and tools, and meets with each PM on regular basis to provide guidance and oversight.  This organization has reach-back to all the senior managers and executive leadership of the company, and convenes Tiger teams as necessary to proactively address project risks and issues.

Integrated Project Planning

Projects often fail due to ambiguity in responsibility – and our integrated project plans remove that ambiguity.  Specifically, our plans are all encompassing – including all tasks and dependencies required to complete the project successfully, with assigned accountability. Unlike most project plans that are developed and sit on a shelf, ours are actively managed and updated regularly, and used to drive task completion. Tight coupling of dependent tasks enables the impact of changes to be viewed immediately, and proactive action to be taken to address changes.

Inclusive Change management

Consolidation and standardization result in change - and change must managed to be successful.  Often, those being consolidated are highly resistant or even hostile to the change, and can cause a project to derail quickly. LabAnswer’s implementation teams infuse Change management in all aspects of the project, and build inclusive Working Groups to manage the change from all dimensions – functional, technical, information security, user support, and training.

Transparency in Requirements management

Stakeholder frustration often is based on unfulfilled requirements and expectations.  A lack of transparency in the management of requirements can leave Stakeholders unsure of which of their requirements will be fulfilled, and at which time.  LabAnswer delivers full requirements transparency – through the use of Fit-Gap processes using live software.  Implementations based on paper-based demonstrations of requirements can leave users unclear of how exactly they will perform their functions in the new system. LabAnswer provides a representative panel user community with live demonstrations of the new system, during which the user community panel determines whether the approach “fits” or is a “gap”.  For any Gaps, Lab Answer creates a “Fit-Gap” analysis that documents the options for closing the gap, to include business process changes, software configuration changes, or a software modification.  Included in these analysis is the Total Cost Of Ownership (TCO) which enables stakeholders to clearly understand the impact and cost of each option.

Data Standardization Expertise

Combining data from multiple systems and solutions into a single Enterprise solution without impacting operations is critical to a consolidation effort.  LabAnswer delivers enterprise data models, data load processes, and Informatics solutions as part of our implementations to ensure your data is accurately transposed to the enterprise solutions while maintaining usability.
